Soakaways are a crucial component in sustainable urban drainage systems(SuDS). The main function of a soakaway is the removal excess roof water to prevent waterlogging damage to your property, by working as a reverse well ,(loses water instead of holding it), since the soakaway drains out the water back into the soil, they are extremely versatile and can be used in any situation, to prevent excess build-up of water. The benefits of a soakaway are the replenishment, of groundwater back into the soil making the practice ecologically sustainable, and significant monetary rebate from your water company once installed as soakaways bypass the sewer system and disperse water back in to the soil, making installing a soakaway a cost effective, and permanent solution, to flooding issues your property faces, if you would like to discuss soakaway installation further, or book a quote please call us at 07930901912, or fill out the enquiry form below.
Soakaway installation follows the process of first finding a spot 5m away from a property, or if not possible the furthest point away. Excavate a minimum 1 cubic metre void. The next step is to excavate a downward sloping trench from the downpipe outlet to the soakaway inlet. Fit a weed preventing membrane and place soakaway crates into the void . The next stage is to connect 100mm underground pipework to the soakaway crates. Fold the membrane over the crates. cover underground pipe, and void around crates with pea shingle. Cover soakaway with a concrete lid. Relay top soil and turf, or paving to look as undisturbed as possible.
